The challenges historians face includes, gaps in information
and cases where information has been lost in translation meaning they must
guess from the evidence they have. There are also ways of judging a situation
and it depends on what perspective you look at it from at the time of the
context because over time people’s perspective change. Historians cannot go
back in time to see the results and must rely on others for their information
which most the time is difficult because of unknowns as for example in Margaret
Thatcher’s Fontainebleau Memoirs. Overall the reliability of sources can be
evaluated mostly based on whom they came from and whether they are relevant and
trustworthy to provide the correct information to the historian.
