HomepageI would like to invite you all to my website.Horse Racing in Barbados.Let me give you a little history about the Garrison. This is a small district about two miles from Bridgetown, bordering the Hastings area,in the Parish of Christ Church. It is dominated by its historic horse race-track, located on the 30 acre parade ground called the Garrison Savannah. The Garrison also has many historic buildings, surrounding it.These include Saint Anne’s Fort (home of The Barbados Defense Fort).George Washington House,The Barbados Museum, and Main Guard, which has the clock tower on it.The Main Guard was built around 1803.The Barbados Turf Club is responsible for the horseracing industry in Barbados. The Turf club was started in 1905.It is run by a board of directors and the Current President is Sir David Seale KT J.P.Racing has been around since 1845,where the officers in the British regiment back then used to race their horses.Later they were joined by the rich merchants and wealthy planters.Champion HorsesThese horses also played their part.By leaving their mark forever on history’s page.Bentom,Concorde Hero,Sandford prince,Piou,Green Man,Kimafoutiesa,Hotcha,Man of the sea,Taylor of Soham,Laura Jenny,Aslan,Gone Prospecting, lemme go,Liquid bliss,Paddy Bird,Frederico,Stangrave Park,Astral King,Incitatius,Unchallenged,Shared Adventure,Alto Jane,Blast of storm The Apostle and Northern Star.Major Horseracing EventsThe two major horseracing events in Barbados are the Sandy Lane Goldcup and The Barbados Derby. The Gold cup first started back in 1982 and was won by Trinidadian horse Bold Lewis, and ridden by Declan Gillespie. It took Barbados another two years to win its first Gold Cup 1984.
